When is the best time to harvest cannabis plants, and how do I know when they are ready?
Knowing when to harvest your cannabis plants is important in ensuring that you get the desired potency, flavor, and aroma from your final product. Here are some tips on when to harvest and how to know when your cannabis plants are ready:
Look at the trichomes:
Trichomes are the resin glands on the buds and leaves of the cannabis plant, and they contain the cannabinoids and terpenes that give the plant its potency and aroma. When the trichomes are clear, the plant is not yet ready for harvest. As the plant matures, the trichomes will turn cloudy and then amber. When around 70-80% of the trichomes are cloudy and around 20-30% of them are amber, it is usually a good time to harvest for a balanced high.
Check the pistils:
Pistils are the hairs that grow on the buds of the cannabis plant. When the pistils begin to change color from white to brown or red, it is an indication that the plant is maturing and getting ready for harvest.
Monitor the buds:
As the buds mature, they will become denser and swell up. This is a good indication that the plant is getting ready for harvest. It’s important to make sure that the buds are not too dense or tightly packed, as this can lead to mold and other issues.
In general, the best time to harvest your cannabis plants is when the trichomes are cloudy and amber and the pistils have begun to change color. By following these tips and monitoring your plants closely, you can ensure that you harvest your cannabis plants at the right time for optimal potency, flavor, and aroma.
