Flavonoids: Isoliquiritigenin In Cannabis
Isoliquiritigenin (ILG) is a flavonoid that is found in various plants, including cannabis. It has been studied for its potential therapeutic effects and has been found to have a range of health benefits.
ILG has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects that can help reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation is a natural response to injury or infection, but chronic inflammation can lead to a variety of health problems, including heart disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. ILG inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators and reduces the activity of immune cells that contribute to inflammation. As a result, it may help prevent or reduce the risk of these health problems.
In addition to its anti-inflammatory effects, ILG has been studied for its potential effects on cancer. A 2017 study published in the journal “Cancer Letters” found that ILG was able to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in a variety of cancer cell lines. The study suggests that ILG may be a potential treatment for cancer in humans.
ILG has also been studied for its potential effects on liver health. A 2018 study published in the journal “Food & Function” found that ILG was able to protect against liver damage in a mouse model of liver injury. The study suggests that ILG may be a potential treatment for liver diseases in humans.
Furthermore, ILG has been studied for its potential effects on cardiovascular health. A 2019 study published in the journal “Pharmacological Research” found that ILG was able to reduce blood pressure and improve endothelial function in a rat model of hypertension. The study suggests that ILG may be a potential treatment for high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases in humans.
It’s worth noting that while ILG is found in cannabis plants, it is not psychoactive and does not produce the “high” associated with THC, another compound found in the plant. Furthermore, cannabis plants typically contain very low concentrations of ILG, which means that it is not currently used in medical or therapeutic applications. However, its potential as an anti-inflammatory, anticancer, liver-protective, and cardiovascular health-promoting agent has sparked interest in further research and development.
