What Is Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-8-THC)?
Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-8-THC) is a psychoactive cannabinoid that occurs naturally in cannabis plants. It is structurally similar to Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-9-THC), the main psychoactive compound found in cannabis, but has some differences in its chemical structure and effects on the body.
Delta-8-THC is typically found in low concentrations in the cannabis plant, but it can be extracted and concentrated to create products that are high in Delta-8-THC. These products include oils, edibles, and vapes.
Delta-8-THC binds to the CB1 receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system, which are primarily located in the brain and central nervous system. This binding activity results in various psychoactive effects, including feelings of euphoria, relaxation, and altered perception of time and space. Delta-8-THC is known to be less potent than Delta-9-THC, but it still has psychoactive effects and may produce a milder high than Delta-9-THC.
Research on Delta-8-THC is limited, but some studies have suggested that it may have potential therapeutic benefits.
