Determining the sex of cannabis Plants

The sex of a cannabis plant can be determined during the plant’s pre-flowering stage, which typically occurs 3-6 weeks after germination. Here are a few ways to determine the sex of a cannabis plant:

Look for preflowers
Preflowers are small, immature versions of the male or female flowers that will eventually appear on the plant. They can be found at the base of the plant’s branches, where the leaves meet the stem. Male preflowers will look like small, round balls, while female preflowers will have small, hair-like pistils.

Check the nodes
The nodes are the points on the stem where the leaves and branches grow out. Female plants will have a calyx at each node, while male plants will have a small, round ball-like structure.
Use a magnifying glass
If the preflowers or nodes are difficult to see, you can use a magnifying glass or jeweler’s loupe to get a closer look.
It’s important to identify the sex of your cannabis plants early in their life cycle, so you can remove any male plants before they have a chance to pollinate your female plants, which can result in a lower quality and lower-yielding harvest.
